Heather Lane Dunleavy, MA, MEd, LMFT, AAMFT

Therapist/Child, Adolescent, Marriage & Family Specialist

Treatment Philosophies:
After working as a classroom educator for 15 years, Heather became a therapist to better address the needs of children that she saw were not being met. Children and adolescents face a variety of emotional issues that can be difficult for them to express, name, and discuss with adults in their lives; they struggle with wanting respect and have concerns about their feelings and how to express them. Many young people feel that no one is listening to them; Heather wants to help empower them, giving them tools so that they can be safe, respected, and heard.

Treatment Specialties:
Heather specializes in behavioral issues, educational concerns, and mood disorders. She also works with couples and families to help address issues at home to help improve communication skills within the family unit. Her focus is always trauma-informed and holistic, which considers what is happening in a patient’s life and never focuses on finding what is “wrong” with them. Heather uses a variety of approaches to create unique treatments for every client, helping them build understanding and coping skills. For example, with children, she often uses play therapy and applied behavioral analysis, while adolescent and adult clients might benefit more from motivational interviewing and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapies).
