Shāna R. Gordon was born and raised in Atlanta, GA and has been a resident of Guilford County since January 2008. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina, Columbia in Sociology, Psychology, and Criminology and then obtained her graduate degree in Counseling and Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Arkansas, Little Rock. Shāna is a licensed clinical mental health counselor, distance credentialed counselor, WPATH GEI Certified Gender Specialist, and a certified rehabilitation counselor.

Shāna’s areas of knowledge are gender and sexual orientation issues, law enforcement and military critical incident/job-related issues, adults with ADHD, and adjustment to acquired injury/illness. Her colleagues and other professionals in the medical community have identified her as a Gender Specialist for children, adolescents, and adults. Shāna’s professional training and years of clinical experience qualify her to provide evaluations and referrals for transgender clients in order to begin hormone treatment and/or gender affirmation surgery. Shāna has extensive experience working with those involved in the criminal justice system. She has worked in a variety of settings including law enforcement, the North Carolina Department of Corrections, outpatient/inpatient mental health facilities, and emergency rooms.

She received the 2013 ALGBTIC Service Award from the American Counseling Association for her work with the LGBTQQIA community, then in 2018 Guilford Green’s Service Award for her work with the transgender community.
