Melissa is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor who has found her purpose and passion as a Maternal Mental Health Specialist. As a mom of 3, Melissa is attuned to the challenges women face in their unique journey’s to parenthood and has had extensive training to be able to offer help and comfort. Melissa received her undergraduate degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and English. After teaching in Guilford County Schools for 6 years, Melissa decided to go back to school to pursue her passion of helping others through counseling. She earned her Master of Science in Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. It was going to school when her first child was 6 months old, as well as her own struggle with postpartum depression and anxiety, that helped Melissa focus on the needs of mothers as an area of clinical specialty. She has been serving moms in Guilford County ever since.

Melissa has training and experience in perinatal depression, perinatal anxiety, parenting stress, stress relating to parenting a child with special needs, feelings around miscarriage, relationship issues caused by pregnancy, parenting, miscarriage or abortion, feelings around abortion, survivors of sexual assault giving birth, traumatic birth experiences, rainbow babies, infertility, pre-existing mental health issues made worse by pregnancy and/or parenting, and grief and loss relating to pregnancy or child.

Melissa uses a variety of evidenced-based therapeutic approaches including, but not limited to, Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered and Mindfulness-Based techniques. Melissa recognizes and respects that every woman’s journey is unique, and she looks forward to working with you.
